Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 c. dry bread crumbs or cracker crumbs
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. minced onion
  • 1/4 c. finely chopped celery
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 c. water

Method

  • Combine everything except soup and water and shape into an oval patty about 1-inch thick.
  • Using a small amount of butter, brown on both sides in a skillet.
  • Combine soup and water and pour around meat.
  • Cook slowly in covered skillet for 25 minutes.
  • If desired, put boiled potatoes around meat.
  • Soup and meat juices will make the gravy without further thickening.
