Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. scalded milk
  • 3/4 c. white sugar
  • 1/4 c. melted margarine
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cardamon
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 c. glazed mixed fruit
  • 1/2 c. glazed cherries
  • 6 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 5 tsp. lemon juice
  • candy Easter eggs or cherries

Method

  • Sprinkle yeast onto warm water.
  • Dissolve.
  • In large bowl, combine milk, sugar, margarine, vanilla, cardamon and salt.
  • Add yeast, then eggs, stirring until well blended.
  • Add glazed fruit, then gradually beat in flour.
  • Turn onto floured board and knead until smooth and satiny.
  • Place in greased bowl, cover with towel and let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 2 hours. Punch down dough.
  • Divide into 2 or 4 sections; place each into a well-greased can.
  • Cover and let rise until doubled in size again.
