Ingredients
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine, melted
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 c. milk
- 1 egg
- 1 to 2 Tbsp. rum or bourbon or more to taste or use 1/2 to 1 tsp. rum flavoring
Method
- Mix flour and sugar into margarine; stir in milk until smooth. Bring to simmer; cook for about 5 minutes, until thickened.
- Beat egg in a small cup.
- Add some of the hot mixture to the egg, beating well.
- Stir egg into sauce mixture, beating until smooth. Cook 3 to 5 minutes, until thickened.
- Do not boil.
- Remove from heat.
- Add vanilla and rum or bourbon.
- Serve warm over bread pudding.
