Ingredients

  • FOR THE CAKE:
  • 2/3 cups Shortening
  • 1/2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup White Sugar
  • 2 whole Eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoons Nutmeg
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • FOR THE TOPPING:
  • Butter, For Dotting On Top Of Cake
  • 1/2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon

Method

  • For the cake, cream together the shortening, brown sugar and white sugar. Add eggs, salt, baking soda, baking powder, flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg and buttermilk.
  • Pour batter into a 9x13 pan. Dot with butter, and top with a mixture of 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Bake at 350°F until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
