Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 c. plain flour
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. lemon flavor
  • 1 tsp. vanilla flavor
  • 2 (1 oz.) bottles red food coloring
  • 1 Tbsp. cocoa

Method

  • Preheat oven to 325°.
  • Grease and flour tube pan.
  • Cream sugar, butter and shortening together until fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time and mix well after each. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  • Combine milk, food coloring, lemon and vanilla flavoring and cocoa together; add to batter.
  • Beat at high speed until mixed well. Pour batter into greased and floured tube pan.
  • Fill to 2/3 full. Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 15 minutes until done. Frost with Cream Cheese Icing.
