- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. shortening (Crisco)
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp. orange or vanilla extract
- 5 c. flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. baking ???

- 1 c. flour
- 1 c. rolled oats (old-fashioned)
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
- 1 c. coconut, flaked
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 Tbsp. boiling water
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. Karo syrup
Method
- Mix first 6 ingredients together (flour, oats, nuts, coconut, sugar and salt).
- In small bowl, mix baking soda and water.
- Then melt butter with Karo syrup over low heat; remove pan from heat. Stir in baking soda mixture.
- Then stir butter mixture into flour mixture, combining well.
- Round 1 tablespoon of batter and press into disks on cookie sheet, 2 inches in diameter.
- Bake in middle of oven for 14 minutes at 325°.
- Cool on cookie sheet.
- Makes 30 cookies.
- Keep in airtight container.
