Ingredients
- 2 oz. red food coloring
- 3 Tbsp. Hershey's instant cocoa
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 1/4 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. baking powder
Method
- Mix food coloring and cocoa.
- Set aside.
- Cream shortening and sugar.
- Add eggs and color mixture.
- Beat for 10 minutes.
- Add 1 cup buttermilk.
- Slowly add flour, salt and vanilla.
- Beat until well mixed.
- Mix soda in small amount of water and fold into batter.
- Bake in two 9-inch pans at 350° for about 30 minutes.
