Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. white corn syrup
  • 1/3 c. water
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 qt. popped popcorn

Method

  • Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, butter and salt.
  • Cook, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved.
  • Continue cooking without stirring until syrup reaches 270° or forms a brittle ball when dropped into cold water.
  • Add vanilla.
  • (If desired, a couple drops of food coloring may be added to syrup.
  • Divide syrup in separate bowls for each color.)
  • Pour syrup over popped corn; mix thoroughly to cover all kernels.
  • Grease hands with butter and shape into balls.
  • (If desired, 1 cup of unsalted roasted peanuts may be added to popped corn.)
  • Number will vary according to size of each ball.
