Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • water or black coffee
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. soda
  • 4 c. flour

Method

  • Boil 1 pound raisins slowly in water or coffee.
  • Allow to cool.
  • Add sugar and shortening.
  • Sift together salt, cinnamon, cloves, baking powder, soda and flour.
  • Add to raisin mixture.
  • Can add your choice of nuts also.
  • Bake on large cookie sheet at 350° for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes.
  • Great with Cool Whip topping.
