Ingredients

  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 2 sticks oleo
  • 3 c. flour (sift three times)
  • 1 small can Carnation milk (add water to make 1 cup)
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla butternut flavoring (McCormick flavoring)
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 (10 oz.) maraschino cherries, cut in half

Method

  • Cream Crisco, oleo and sugar.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each time.
  • Add flour alternately with milk, ending with flour.
  • Add flavoring, nuts and cherries.
  • (Cherries should be well drained and rolled in flour.)
  • Bake in greased tube pan.
  • Bake 1 hour and 45 minutes at 325°.
  • Cake should start in cold oven.
