Ingredients

  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 c. shortening (room temperature)
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 large egg

Method

  • In a large bowl, mix well with a fork, flour, sugar and salt; add shortening and mix with flour mixture until crumbly.
  • In a small bowl, beat egg, water and vinegar.
  • Add to flour mixture and stir until moistened.
  • Divide dough into 5 portions and shape into a flat circle.
  • Wrap each in waxed paper and chill 1/2 hour. Lightly flour both sides of pie patties.
  • Roll out on a lightly floured surface.
  • May be kept in refrigerator for 3 days.
