Ingredients
- 3 c. flour
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. dark molasses (light for a milder taste)
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 c. boiling water
Method
- Mix flour, sugar, shortening and salt.
- Take out 1 cup of mixture; set aside for topping.
- Combine molasses, baking soda and water; add to dry ingredients.
- Divide mixture between two 8-inch unbaked pie shells.
- Top with reserved crumb topping (1/2 cup for each pie).
- Bake at 350° for 1 hour, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
