Ingredients

  • 1 c. oleo
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 pkg. orange slice candy, chopped
  • 2 c. chopped nuts
  • 2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 can coconut

Method

  • Cream oleo and sugar.
  • Add eggs one at a time.
  • Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add.
  • Place flour in large bowl; add dates, candy and nuts.
  • Stir well and add to cream mixture.
  • Add coconut.
  • Bake in tube pan for 1 1/2 hours at 250°.
  • Mix orange juice and powdered sugar; pour over top of cake and let stand overnight.
