Ingredients

  • 1 lb. dates
  • 1 lb. candy orange slices
  • 2 c. pecans
  • 3 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 c. margarine
  • 1 can coconut
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Method

  • Prepare dates, candy and nuts by cutting up into fine pieces and rolling in a portion of flour.
  • Mix well together margarine with sugar; add eggs, one at a time, blending well.
  • Add buttermilk.
  • Sift remaining flour with soda and add to mixture. Fold in chopped dates, nuts and orange slices.
  • Bake in a well-greased and floured tube pan.
  • Bake for 3 hours at 250°.
  • Let set in pan for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from pan and glaze.
