Ingredients

  • 1 c soft butter
  • 1 1/4 c sugar
  • 3 c plain flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 T fresh ground nutmeg
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 1 t soda
  • 2 T buttermilk

Method

  • Combine butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, then add salt, vanilla and flour. Combine buttermilk, soda and nutmeg. Mix both combinations together. Next, dump mixture into a bowl of flour, (either plain or self-rising) as if to roll out biscuits. Pinch off little balls about the size of a log-roller marble and roll them in a little flour. Place on a greased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart. Take a flat bottomed glass dipped in flour and press balls down flat until almost touching each other on the cookie sheet. (I use an old snuff glass.) Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown. Let set on cookie sheet, then store in an airtight container after they are cooled. Happy Eating!!!!!!!
