Ingredients
- 1 lb. (2 1/4 c.) green split peas
- 2 1/2 qt. water
- 1 meaty ham bone
- 1 1/2 c. sliced onions
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
- 1/4 tsp. marjoram
- 1 c. diced celery
- 1 c. sliced carrots
- potatoes as desired
- 1 tsp. parsley flakes
- salt to taste
Method
- In a large kettle, combine peas, water, ham bone, onions and seasonings.
- Simmer, covered, for 2 hours.
- Remove bone, cut off bits of meat and return to soup along with celery, carrots, potatoes and remaining seasonings.
- Cook 45 minutes.
- Serve with French bread.
- Yields 12 servings.
- Better the second day.
