Ingredients
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 c. warm water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 6 1/2 to 7 c. sifted flour
- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/3 c. shortening
Method
- Dissolve yeast in water.
- Add sugar, salt and half of flour. Beat thoroughly 2 minutes.
- Add egg and shortening.
- Gradually beat in remaining flour until smooth.
- Cover with damp cloth; place in refrigerator.
- Punch down occasionally.
- About 2 hours before baking, cut off amount needed and return remaining dough to refrigerator.
- Shape into rolls and place in greased pan.
- Cover. Let rise 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Bake in 400° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
- Yield: 4 dozen.
