Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 6 1/2 to 7 c. sifted flour
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1/3 c. shortening

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in water.
  • Add sugar, salt and half of flour. Beat thoroughly 2 minutes.
  • Add egg and shortening.
  • Gradually beat in remaining flour until smooth.
  • Cover with damp cloth; place in refrigerator.
  • Punch down occasionally.
  • About 2 hours before baking, cut off amount needed and return remaining dough to refrigerator.
  • Shape into rolls and place in greased pan.
  • Cover. Let rise 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Bake in 400° oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • Yield: 4 dozen.
