Ingredients
- 1 loaf Italian bread, cut into 1-inch thick slices
- 8 large eggs
- 3 c. milk
- 4 tsp. granulated sugar
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 2 Tbsp. butter, cut into pieces
Method
- Put bread in a well-greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
- Mix other ingredients, except butter, and pour over bread in pan.
- Cover with foil; refrigerate for 4 to 36 hours.
- Uncover, dot with butter and bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes, until puffy and lightly browned.
- Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
- Serves 8 to 10.
- Serve with powdered sugar or syrup.
