Ingredients

  • 2 cans (10 oz. each) black-eyed peas
  • 1 (14 oz.) can chicken broth
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomatoes and green chilies or tomatoes
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 2 ribs chopped celery
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. chopped bell pepper
  • 2 cloves chopped garlic
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Method

  • Mash peas from one can.
  • Combine all ingredients in large stew pot and cook on low heat for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Serve hot with sour dough bread anytime, but for "good luck" on New Year's Day. Makes 6 servings.
