Ingredients
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. butter or shortening
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. milk (approximately)
- 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- jelly or jam
Method
- Sift flour, sugar, salt, cream of tartar and baking soda.
- Cut shortening into dry mixture.
- Add milk to make soft dough.
- Roll out about 1/4-inch thick and spread with butter, then brown sugar. Roll up as for jelly roll; slice.
- Place in greased muffin pans. Add 1/2 teaspoon jelly
- or jam on top of each muffin. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
