Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. butter or shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. milk (approximately)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • jelly or jam

Method

  • Sift flour, sugar, salt, cream of tartar and baking soda.
  • Cut shortening into dry mixture.
  • Add milk to make soft dough.
  • Roll out about 1/4-inch thick and spread with butter, then brown sugar. Roll up as for jelly roll; slice.
  • Place in greased muffin pans. Add 1/2 teaspoon jelly
  • or jam on top of each muffin. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.
