Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 2 Tbsp. fat
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 3 c. canned tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 lb. beef bones
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 3 Tbsp. uncooked rice
  • 1/4 c. grated onion
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp. water (cold)
  • 3 Tbsp. honey
  • 1/4 c. lemon juice
  • 1/4 c. seedless raisins

Method

  • Place the cabbage in a kettle and add boiling water to cover. Let soak 15 minutes and drain.
  • Carefully remove 12 large leaves or if the leaves are too small, use 18.
  • Heat the fat in a large deep saucepan or casserole.
  • Add sliced onions and cook, stirring, until golden.
  • Add tomatoes, 1/2 salt, 1/2 pepper and bones. Simmer 30 minutes.
