Ingredients
- 5 c. self-rising flour
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 c. lard
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
Method
- Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.
- In large bowl, sift together 4 cups flour and baking soda.
- Cut in lard until it looks like coarse crumbs.
- Mix together the remaining 1 cup flour with buttermilk and yeast mixture to the flour mixture.
- Mix well. Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead.
- Place in greased bowl, covered, in refrigerator.
- Biscuits are ready to bake at any time.
- When you are ready to bake, roll out and cut as many as needed.
- Bake in a 425° oven for about 15 minutes.
- Yields about 3 dozen biscuits.
