Ingredients
- 5 1/2 c. flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 pkg. dry yeast (use 5 pkg. for double recipe)
Method
- Scald milk.
- Add sugar and cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water, 5 minutes. Add a little sugar to yeast when dissolving. Combine lukewarm milk and dissolved yeast.
- Add 3 cups flour and beat well. Add eggs and salt which have been beaten lightly. Add melted Crisco.
- When it is well blended, add most of the remaining flour, reserving some for kneading.
- When thoroughly mixed and stiff, let rest for 10 minutes.
- After resting, knead until smooth and elastic. Return to oiled bowl to rise until doubled. Punch down.
- Knead and let rise again.
- Shape into loaves, rolls, etc., and let rise.
- Put in preheated 400° oven about 15 minutes.
