Ingredients
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. shortening (butter flavor)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 5 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- sugar
Method
- Mix 2 cups sugar and shortening; beat until light.
- Add eggs and molasses and continue to beat until light.
- Add flour, salt, baking soda and spices.
- Mix until mixture leaves sides of bowl (you may need to add a little more flour).
- Roll dough into walnut sized balls; roll into sugar to coat.
- Place on ungreased baking sheet 2 inches apart and bake 12 to 14 minutes (shorter for soft cookie and longer for crisp) at 350°.
- Cool on racks.
- Dough and/or cookies freeze very well.
- Makes a bazillion cookies.
