Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/3 c. flour
  • 2 c. milk
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 egg yolks (reserve whites for meringue)
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 deep dish pie shell, baked and cooled

Method

  • Combine all ingredients except butter and pie shell. Cook in microwave at 2 minute intervals, stirring each time; usually takes about 8 minutes, depending on oven wattage.
  • When it becomes thick, add butter.
  • Stir until melted.
  • Pour in prepared pie shell.
  • Cool for meringue.
  • Beat egg whites until stiff. Add 6 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar.
  • Beat well. Put on pie.
  • Put back in oven at 400° and lightly brown. Cool Whip can be used instead of meringue.
