Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs round steaks
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 onions, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped skinned tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 bay leaf, crushed
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • black pepper
  • 1 lb boiled spaghetti
  • parmesan cheese, grated

Method

  • Cut the beef into 1 inch cubes and brown in hot oil on all sides. Lift out and set aside.
  • Saute the onions and garlic in the pan until soft, add tomatoes, tomato paste, wine, bay lead, cloves, sugar, saly and pepper, return the beef to the pan and cover.
  • Simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Serve with the boiled spaghetti and sprinkle with grated cheese.
