Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 medium sized tart apples
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. ground mace or allspice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. maple syrup
  • 5 maraschino cherries, halved
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. milk

Method

  • Heat oven to 350°.
  • Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a 9-inch round skillet.
  • Stir in syrup and mix well.
  • Core apples.
  • Slice in 1/2-inch rounds and arrange in the syrup, placing an end slice skin side down.
  • Arrange cherries in and around apple slices. Peel remaining apple pieces and chop or grate to make about 2/3 cup.
