Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 2 slices sandwich bread, cubed
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/4 c. shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. salt and pepper
  • 8 pieces manicotti or shells
  • 1 (32 to 36 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese

Method

  • In skillet, brown beef.
  • Remove from heat; drain off fat. Combine bread and milk and let stand 2 minutes.
  • Add bread and milk mixture to beef.
  • Stir in egg, Mozzarella cheese, parsley, salt and pepper; set aside.
  • Cook manicotti or shells according to package.
  • Spread 1 1/2 cups sauce in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Fill manicotti/shells with beef mixture and place in single layer on sauce in prepared dish.
  • Cover with remaining sauce and top with Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake, covered, at 350° for 45 minutes. Serves 8 manicotti or shells.
