Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 c. elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 3 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • pinch of turmeric
  • 1/4 c. oil
  • 1 c. nutritional yeast flakes
  • paprika

Method

  • Cook the elbows.
  • In a saucepan, melt margarine over low heat. Beat in flour with a wire whisk and continue to beat over medium flame until smooth and bubbly.
  • Whip in boiling water, salt, soy sauce, garlic powder and turmeric, beating well to dissolve.
  • The sauce should cook until it thickens and bubbles. Then whip in 1/4 cup oil and the yeast flakes.
  • Mix part of the sauce with the noodles and put in casserole dish, and pour a generous amount of sauce on top.
  • Sprinkle with paprika and bake for 15 minutes in 350° oven.
  • Put in broiler for a few minutes until "cheese" is stretchy and crisp.
