- 2 c. uncooked macaroni
- 3/4 c. chopped onion
- 3/4 c. chopped green pepper
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 tsp. salad oil
- 1 (15 1/2 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce
- 1/4 c. water
- 1 tsp. each salt and sweet basil
- 2 tsp. butter or margarine
- 3 tsp. flour
- 2 c. milk
- 8 oz. pkg. Cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
Method
- Cook and drain macaroni.
- In large skillet, saute onion, green pepper and beef in salad oil.
- Drain excess fat.
- Stir in 1 1/4 cups spaghetti sauce, 1 teaspoon salt,
- basil
- and water. Bring to a boil, cook 5 minutes, stirring often.
- In
- saucepan, melt butter, add flour and gradually blend in
- milk.
- Cook until thick.
- Remove from heat and add
- cheese,
- 1/2
- teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
- Stir until
- cheese melts.
- Pour meat sauce into a 3 quart greased casserole dish or
- 13
- 9 x 2-inch pan. Spoon macaroni on top.
- Smother with cheese sauce. Bake at 400° for 30 minutes.
- Drizzle
- remaining
- sauce on top. Serves 6 to 8.
