Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/2 to 3/4 c. honey or sugar
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1/2 to 3/4 c. wheat germ
  • 7 1/2 c. sifted flour (2 to 3 c. whole wheat flour may be substituted for 2 to 3 c. white flour)

Method

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Add honey or sugar, eggs, salt and oil to mixture and mix well. add flour and wheat germ (8 cups altogether).
  • Mix with spoon as long as you can, then finish mixing by kneading until smooth.
  • Replace in bowl, grease top, cover and let rise to double.
  • Bake at 375° for about 45 minutes.
  • Rub warm bread with butter.
