Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. butter or 2 sticks margarine
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. lemon extract
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 c. sweet milk

Method

  • Cream the butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and lemon extract; blend well.
  • Add eggs, one at a time; continue beating after each addition.
  • Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  • Add flour mixture and milk alternately to creamed mixture; beat well.
  • Pour into large greased and floured tube pan.
  • Bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours, depending on your oven, until cake tests done.
  • (Suggest testing with toothpick after 1 hour and 15 minutes).
