Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. sour milk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. cake flour

Method

  • Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and beat.
  • Add boiling water to cocoa, then add to sugar and butter mixture.
  • Then vanilla and flour.
  • Put soda in sour milk or clabber and stir well.
  • Add last to first mixture.
  • Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  • Use a bit of flour and cocoa so as not to leave a white crust.
  • Bake in a 350° oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from center.
  • Ice with a chocolate icing.
