Ingredients
- 5 c. flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. warm water
Method
- Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.
- Cut in shortening.
- Dissolve yeast in the 1/4 cup water; stir in buttermilk.
- Add to dry mix and stir until blended.
- Knead on floured board just to hold together on lightly floured surface; roll to 1/2-inch thickness.
- Cut with biscuit cutter and place on greased cookie sheet; cover and let rise 45 minutes to 1 hour. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes.
- Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
