Ingredients

  • 2 c. cake flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs (unbeaten)
  • 2 egg whites
  • brown sugar
  • nuts

Method

  • Sift the flour; measure and add baking powder, salt and sugar. Sift again in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add shortening, milk and vanilla.
  • Beat 2 minutes with an electric mixer at low speed.
  • Add unbeaten eggs.
  • Beat 1 minute longer.
  • Pour into an 8 1/2 x 13 1/2 x 2-inch pan which has been greased.
