Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. mashed potatoes
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda

Method

  • Place milk, sugar, potatoes, butter and salt in a large saucepan.
  • Heat slowly to boiling point.
  • Let stand until lukewarm. Add yeast, dissolved in a little of this lukewarm mixture, then add to first mixture.
  • Mix soda and baking powder with flour.
  • Stir in to make a stiff dough.
  • Let rise 15 minutes.
  • Knead to a stiff dough, adding more flour, if necessary.
