Ingredients

  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. cold water
  • 8 c. or more flour

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
  • Melt shortening in 1 cup of boiling water.
  • Cool.
  • Add eggs, sugar, salt and cold water to shortening mixture.
  • Add yeast mixture.
  • Add flour and mix well. Set overnight or at least 5 hours in refrigerator.
  • Three hours before baking, roll out and cut.
  • Dip each roll into melted butter. Fold over and place on greased pan.
  • Let rise double.
  • Bake until brown.
