Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. light brown sugar
  • 1/3 c. hot water
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 5 c. milk
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 3/4 tsp. vanilla
  • garnish: ground nutmeg and whipped cream

Method

  • Melt brown sugar in a 2-quart pan over medium low heat while stirring.
  • Add hot water and bring the mixture to the boiling point.
  • Add butter and cook 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Add milk and heat. Blend in salt and vanilla extract.
  • Garnish with cream ground nutmeg.
  • This is an alternative to hot cocoa and tastes good in the winter!
