Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 1 c. scalded milk, cooled
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 c. cooled melted shortening
  • 6 1/2 c. flour

Method

  • Dissolve yeast in warm milk and water.
  • Add sugar, salt, egg and shortening.
  • Add 3 cups flour.
  • Beat.
  • Gradually add remaining flour; turn dough out on lightly floured board.
  • Knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.
  • Place in greased bowl; brush top with soft shortening.
  • Cover.
  • Let rise in a warm place until double in bulk (about 1 hour).
  • Shape rolls and place on greased baking sheet and let rise again until doubled in size.
  • Bake at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes.
