Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1 c. warm water
- 1 c. scalded milk, cooled
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 c. cooled melted shortening
- 6 1/2 c. flour
Method
- Dissolve yeast in warm milk and water.
- Add sugar, salt, egg and shortening.
- Add 3 cups flour.
- Beat.
- Gradually add remaining flour; turn dough out on lightly floured board.
- Knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.
- Place in greased bowl; brush top with soft shortening.
- Cover.
- Let rise in a warm place until double in bulk (about 1 hour).
- Shape rolls and place on greased baking sheet and let rise again until doubled in size.
- Bake at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes.
