Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 8 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 2 c. milk
  • 3 pkgs. yeast
  • 6 eggs, beaten

Method

  • Heat and melt shortening.
  • Add sugar, salt and milk.
  • Cool. Add yeast that has been dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water to cooled mixture.
  • Add flour, and beaten eggs alternately, beating well after each addition.
  • Place dough in greased bowl to rise until doubled.
  • Cover with cloth.
  • When rising is complete, punch down and put dough in 4 greased loaf pans.
  • Let rise, then bake at 350° until brown.
  • Takes about 35-40 minutes.
  • Butter crust when done.
