Ingredients
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 c. milk, scalded and cooled
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2/3 c. sugar
- lukewarm water and sugar
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 5 c. flour (more or less)
Method
- Dissolve
- yeast
- in
- cup of lukewarm water and add 1 teaspoon
- of sugar.
- Add shortening and sugar to scalded milk; let cool.
- Combine yeast, milk, eggs and dry ingredients.
- Let rise until
- double;
- punch
- down.
- Roll out and cut out.
- Let rise again.
- Fry in deep fat at 350°.
- Makes 3 dozen donuts.
