Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. milk, scalded and cooled
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2/3 c. sugar
  • lukewarm water and sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 5 c. flour (more or less)

Method

  • Dissolve
  • yeast
  • in
  • cup of lukewarm water and add 1 teaspoon
  • of sugar.
  • Add shortening and sugar to scalded milk; let cool.
  • Combine yeast, milk, eggs and dry ingredients.
  • Let rise until
  • double;
  • punch
  • down.
  • Roll out and cut out.
  • Let rise again.
  • Fry in deep fat at 350°.
  • Makes 3 dozen donuts.
