Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. chopped walnuts
  • 1 c. cut up dates
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or oleo
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. sifted flour

Method

  • Place walnuts, dates, soda and salt in bowl.
  • Mix lightly with fork.
  • Add butter and pour in boiling water.
  • Let stand 20 minutes.
  • Beat egg with fork.
  • Add vanilla, then add sugar and flour, beating well with fork.
  • Combine date and flour mixture. Mix just until blended.
  • Bake in greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch pan in 350° oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.
