Ingredients
- 2 c. flour
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- dash of salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 2 Tbsp. dark Karo syrup
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 3/4 c. buttermilk
Method
- Sift dry ingredients and work in shortening with a pastry blender.
- Add syrup and buttermilk to make a soft dough.
- Turn out on a floured surface; flip around a few times, then flatten out into a circle about 1/2-inch thick.
- Cut into 8 wedges (a pizza cutter works great).
- Put on a slightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Top will be only slightly brown.
- Recipe may be doubled to make 16 at one time.
