- 1 (4 oz.) pkg. Baker's German's sweet chocolate
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. margarine
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 4 egg whites, beaten stiff
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°.
- Melt chocolate in boiling water.
- Cool. Cream margarine and sugar until fluffy adding egg yolks one at a time.
- Blend in vanilla and chocolate.
- Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk beating smooth after each addition. Fold in egg whites.
- Pour into greased and floured pans 3 (9-inch) layers.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes, 1 (9 x 13-inch) layer 35 to 40 minutes and 10-inch tube 50 to 55 minutes.
- Test (ovens differ). Frost with French Frosting.
