Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 egg and milk to equal 1/2 c.
  • 2 cans prepared fruit pie filling or 4 to 5 c. sliced apples, mixed with 1 c. sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon and 3 heaping Tbsp. flour, or 4 to 5 c. fresh or frozen cherries, mixed with 1 to 1 1/2 c. sugar and thickened with 3 heaping Tbsp.

Method

  • Cut together like pie crust the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and shortening.
  • Add the egg and milk mixture to the crust. Roll out 1/2 of dough; place in jelly roll pan (10 x 15-inch). Spread the fruit filling over the bottom crust; cover with top crust.
  • Bake at 350° for about 1 hour, or until lightly browned. Frost with powdered sugar glaze.
