Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • buttermilk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 lb. confectioners sugar

Method

  • Mix flour, sugar and salt in a bowl.
  • Combine 1/2 cup margarine, shortening, water and 1/4 cup cocoa in saucepan. Bring to a boil.
  • Pour into flour mixture.
  • Add 1/2 cup of buttermilk, eggs, soda and 1 teaspoon of vanilla; mix well. Spread batter in greased 16 x 11 x 1-inch pan.
  • Bake at 400° for 20 minutes.
  • Combine remaining margarine and cocoa in saucepan. Add 1/3 cup buttermilk.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Blend in confectioners sugar and remaining vanilla.
  • Pour over warm brownies.
