Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. very warm water (105~ to 115~)
  • 2 pkg. or cakes yeast
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. melted margarine or oil
  • 7 c. unsifted flour
  • cornmeal (optional)
  • 1 egg white mixed with 1 Tbsp. water

Method

  • Add yeast to very warm water and mix well in large bowl.
  • Add salt and melted margarine or oil; mix.
  • Add (all at one time) 7 cups flour.
  • Mix well with spoon or by hand.
  • (Dough will be somewhat sticky.)
  • Place in greased bowl.
  • (Do not knead.)
  • Let rise until double in bulk.
  • Punch down and divide into 2 portions. Roll into rectangle.
  • Starting at long side, roll up into loaf and tuck ends under.
  • Place on greased cookie sheet (sprinkled with cornmeal).
  • Let rise until doubled and brush tops with egg white mixture.
  • Bake at 450° until browned.
