Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. mashed, ripe bananas
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Method

  • Stir shortening just to soften; add sugar.
  • Then sift in 4 dry ingredients, 1/4 cup milk and bananas, mixing until well blended. Add eggs, nuts and remaining milk.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Beat until well blended again.
  • Pour into layer pans and bake at 375° for 25 minutes.
