Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. cold water
  • 1 Tbsp. gelatin
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. hot water
  • 4 egg whites, beaten
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • rum (if desired)

Method

  • Sprinkle gelatin over cold water and set aside.
  • Beat egg yolks.
  • Add sugar, salt and hot water.
  • Cook and stir in double boiler until thickened.
  • Pour over gelatin and mix well.
  • Combine beaten egg whites, sugar and nutmeg.
  • Fold egg yolk mixture into egg white mixture.
  • Add rum, if desired.
  • Pour into 9-inch baked crust.
  • Chill.
  • Serve with whipped cream on top.
  • Sprinkle with nutmeg.
  • (For best results, do not double the recipe.)
