Ingredients

  • 6 c. flour (add more if needed)
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 pt. warm milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 yeast cakes (fresh)
  • 1/4 c. raisins, soaked in hot water

Method

  • Put sugar, butter, eggs, milk, salt and yeast cake in a saucepan; heat (do not boil) until warm and yeast is dissolved. Pour into flour; knead dough until it comes away from pan (add raisins, if desired).
  • Cover; put in warm place.
  • Let raise until double in bulk.
  • Punch down; let raise again.
  • Grease pan and fill halfway.
  • Let set 1/2 hour.
  • Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
