Ingredients
- 6 c. flour (add more if needed)
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 lb. butter
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 pt. warm milk
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 yeast cakes (fresh)
- 1/4 c. raisins, soaked in hot water
Method
- Put sugar, butter, eggs, milk, salt and yeast cake in a saucepan; heat (do not boil) until warm and yeast is dissolved. Pour into flour; knead dough until it comes away from pan (add raisins, if desired).
- Cover; put in warm place.
- Let raise until double in bulk.
- Punch down; let raise again.
- Grease pan and fill halfway.
- Let set 1/2 hour.
- Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.
